Posting Photos using the Garden Gallery

Postby ian » Thu Dec 11, 2008 3:56 pm

Now that The Garden Express Forums has its own Garden Gallery you can use it for your own photos as an alternative to sites such as Photobucket. Uploading photos is quite simple:

  • Go to the Garden Gallery and click on the 'Upload Photos' link at the top right of the screen.
  • On the upload page select the category you want to upload your photo to (tip - if you go to the category first this will already be selected for you).
  • Use the 'Browse' button to locate the photo on your computer you want to upload.
  • Enter a name for your photo if you want to change the original name (optional).
  • Add a description for the photo.
  • Add some keywords that relate to the photo - this is handy for anyone searching for photos with particular attributes.
  • Click the "Upload/Submit" button and you are done! (unless you want to use the extra optional features).

Once uploaded you should be able to view your photo within the Garden Gallery in the category to which you uploaded it. It will also be accessible in your personal folder in the Members Gallery.

To use your photo in a post within the main Forums all you need to do is:
  • View the photo in the Garden Gallery
  • Beneath the image is a label "Linked Thumbnail:", select all the text in the box, right click and copy the link and then go to your post and paste it in where you want your photo to show.
  • Finish your post and click 'Preview' to confirm it looks as you wanted then click 'Submit' if all is well.

The link to include in your post will look something like:
[ url=http://www.gardenexpress.com.au/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=48][ img]http://www.gardenexpress.com.au/photopost/data/515/thumbs/Tibouchina_lepidota.jpg[ /img][ /url]

Note - I've added spaces so the actual text of the link shows and it shows over two lines due to its length - here it what the normal result is:

Image

You will see that the image included in the post is a thumbnail which makes it easy to read the post and if anyone wants to see the full size photo they can just click on it.

Easiest thing to do is have a play and try it out, you can always delete the post afterwards.

I can follow this OK until I try to add a second photo. I cant find my message when I try to return from the Gallery. What should I be doing ?

I have managed it but more by accident than design and just hope I can do it again another time!

Hi Joanne. You could try clicking on the 'view your posts' link near the top left, or you could right click on the back button to find the right page.

Thanks Pam; I've made a note of that and will have a play some time. Haven't heard of right-clicking on the back button before but always glad to learn something new...even at the tender age of 80!

I keep having a message come up that say the board quota has been reached even though there are no photos on that particular board.
Don't throw it away.....someone might be able to use it........

Pam has reported this to Ian by PM. Last I heard from Pam was that the message had not been opened. It is possible that Ian is absent for a time.
In most cases, Pam is able to keep things motoring along. This, however, requires the admin. team.

I've also messaged whomever runs the facebook page (not Ian) to let them know. If I get the chance I might try calling someone today.
