Liliums - when are they available?

Postby Carolyn1978 » Tue May 08, 2012 10:32 pm

Hi all,

I've discovered that oriental liliums love the southern highlands, attached is a photo of me standing in my patch in February this year, the fragrance was just amazing and they were so tall and the flower heads huge. These are only two years old so I can't wait to plant lots more!

I noticed they are not available at the moment. Does anyone know when they will be for sale again? The latest Your Garden has a feature on them and says to plant from May to August.

They get planted in winter/spring for summer flowering. Check the next Garden Express catalogue. You can sign up for them on the website.

What a great lily patch, I'm very envious. There are lots of different sorts of lily, and they are easy to grow from seed if you get the bug. There is a good book on the whole genus called "growing Lilies" by Derek Fox, may be available on amazon. You can get seeds by joining the RHS lily group. Bulbs are available at this time of year or a bit later. You can also propagate them from bulb scales.
