azalea propagtion

Postby dolicus » Tue Sep 28, 2010 8:50 pm

I have about 20 azalea plants in that have flowered well. I am at the stage of pruning and shaping.
I would like to take cuttings from the pruning.
Is there anyone ouy there that might give me some tips on the best way to do these cuttings,
Thankyou

Azaleas are not easy but will take. Some rooting hormone will help, take cuttings about 8-10cm long, keep well watered in a shaded place. The easiest way to propogate azaleas and rhodos is by layering.

Azaleas and Rhodos are quite easy from seed, they germinate easily but take a few years to flower. They will produce beautiful plants, if you can get seed it is well worth trying.
