Has anyone grown Delphiniums from seed in Sydney? If so, do you have any tips on when to sow, can I sow the seed direct into the garden bed, how much sun, water, fertilizer, etc, etc?

I don't live in Sydney but visit fairly often. I don't recall seeing any delphiniums growing, I would presume it is too hot and humid. Larkspurs are viewed as an easier alternative, though for the cost of a seed packet you might as well try delphiniums.

I'm in Tassie and have just planted some delphinium seeds in punnets as I tried direct planting and the snails & slugs had a field day. So I am now doing it this way. I am told that ash from your fire place (if you have one) makes a very good deterrent for both snails & slugs, I will find out soon enough when my delphiniums are ready to plant out.
