Umbrella trees shooting as epiphytes

We have 17 large date palms in our street, and half a dozen have small Umbrella trees (Schefflera actinophylla) shooting as epiphytes.

Council have stated this will not harm the palms however I would like a second opinion.

I suspect they may change their mind when the palms are strangled. :). I think the trees are strangler figs ( Ficus ....) that have grown from seed dropped by birds.
Gardening is sharing.
