Grass Trees

Postby Dani » Sun Sep 23, 2018 8:03 pm

Hi All,

First time on the site so welcome any assistance.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for existing grass tree removal. We have a few planted (bought with tags legally some years ago) that we are wanting to put into pots, as land is being sold for development.

I've done a bit of reading and from what I can see best method is by hand with mattock, keeping a couple of inches away from the trunk and severing as many roots as possible with the mattock, prior to gently rocking the tree and plucking from the ground. Any other or preferred tips?

Also they have quite a bit of overgrowth from the old leaves (skirt), is it best to burn this prior to removal or remove and then burn once established, healthy and happy? The trees are all around 100cm tall in trunk size.

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thank you Dani.
