do chooks like kale?

Postby kitkat » Fri Mar 18, 2011 12:23 am

Does anyone know if chooks like Kale?
I have been browsing some of the seed sites listed this morning and I like some of those heirloom kales as ornamentals/veg but I wouldn't eat much myself, so my chooks ( planned family) would have to help keep them under control - if they like kale.
Guess they would be good on compost and worm food too?
I remember my uncle using kale in the Botanic gardens as edging plants in the 1960s.I had forgotten them until today.

Don't know about the chooks, but I do! Haven't had it since before I came to Oz. We used to buy it as 'Curly Kale' - tasted much better than plain old cabbage.

Thats good news. Lost Seeds have many curly and coloured heirloom varieties and I thought I would try some of the unusual ones as long as I can share with the chooks. Most things I grow are shared with neighbours ,friends and chooks........ and possums and birds of course.. :D
