Black Soldier Fly Lavae BSFL

Postby Graeme Sydney » Fri Jun 23, 2017 1:53 pm

I saw a Gardening Australia program recently that featured Community Recycling at Marrickville. Old Mate in charge of composting was interviewed and in passing mentioned the use of BSFL to break down the compost and that they were 4 times faster then worms.

It is the four times faster that particularly sparked an interest for me. Has anyone had any experience with BSFL. In particular I wondering do the BSFL hatch and fly off or do they colonize the heap and stay permanently? Are there any other issues with BSFL? Can worms inhabit the same heap or does survival of the fitness reign supreme?
