will a crab apple survive a drastic chop?
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow? Only to be troubled and insecure?

Yes it will Paddles - and a great tree for Bonsai. It's one of the apple family and in orchards, apple trees are quite drastically pruned.
