Please help me identify this pest

Postby captaindaz1973 » Mon Nov 26, 2012 10:03 pm

Hi all,

I've recently started noticing my rose buds being eaten by something. Today I knocked this little fellow off a bud he was eating and killed him. Please help me identify him. He is about 1cm long and he leave the leaves curled. Any hints on getting rid of this little monster as he is ruining my flowers....?

Kind regards in advance.

Darren.

Is that web on the curled leaf?

Your beetle is a Flower Beetle. They feed on nectar and can damage buds in the process but the web and curled leaves are from a caterpillar of some kind not the beetle.

What's the best way of getting rid of the 'flower beetle'? Preferably without to many hash chemicals?

I'm not sure really. If it's not the cause of the damage why get rid of it at all? If you really want it gone my choice would just be to pick it off and squash it.

I've been searching and it seems this flower beetle may be a muncher after all.

Is this him?
