what do I put in the soil when planting?

Hi everyone - apologies for a basic question but i am about to plant my first rose. what do they like in the soil? unfortunately i have big dogs so am also interested to know if there is good stuff that doesn't come with the smell?

I assume you probably have a clay soil... dig in some sand, manure and/or compost. Water in with a seaweed solution. Add a nitrogen fertiliser to begin with then a potassium fertiliser before flowering
