Weed ID & treatment advice: Eastern Melb

Postby Patsmanpost » Mon Sep 30, 2013 9:28 pm

Hi,

Hoping someone can ID this weed for me (see pic).
It's prolific throughout my garden, and has come back after removing it last year.
It's quite sticky, and clings to clothes (and other plants) very well.
I'd like to get rid of it once and for all if possible.

Thanks,
Pat

I don't know what it's called (we call it sticky weed!) but you need to weed it before it sets seed, and it sets LOTS of seed. It's very easy to pull out. It will probably come back for a fair while. You could use poison, but pulling it out is easy. Don't compost it, I actually wouldn't even put it in a green-waste bin. It's rubbish :)

It's cleavers - Gallium is the genus.

Karyn's right - it hand weeds easily, but you'll get it coming up for another couple of years because the seed remains viable for a few seasons. It's an annual, so as long as you stop it setting seed for a few years, you'll eradicate it.

It is a nuisance indeed, put it in a black plastic bag and leave it in the sun for a week or so, if you are going to dispose of it in the garbage.
Be Happy.
