yellow with five petals in adelaide hills

Postby MichelleCaterpillar » Wed Oct 09, 2013 9:39 pm

Hi,

I’ve attached photos of a plant that is starting to spread in my bush block in the Adelaide Hills. I've had a look in my plant books but I guess it's not native nor a common weed as I can't find it. any hints would be great.

Ta Michelle

Try Hibbertia scandens.

Yes, it looks very much like Snake Vine Hibbertia scandens to me. Is your specimen a vine, Michelle? If it is that would almost certainly confirm it as Hibbertia scandens which is native to areas of NSW & Queensland. To be sure you could take it to State Flora at Belair for identification before trying to remove it as part of any bush care project you might be conducting. The old addage applies on bush blocks: "When in doubt, don't pull it out".

The Australian Plant Society is having a sale at Wayville Saturday, details would be on their internet site. They do ID's. Don't bother going on the Sunday, there's usually nothing left!
