Identify Please - Caterpillar? NSW

Postby webuser » Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:14 am

Hi - I have these little cocoons that are on a street tree of mine (tristianus laur....??)

when i pick one off a small (tiny) worm/caterpillar - black colour - pokes out it's head.

there are holes in the leaves also.

i am in kensington nsw

is this a standard caterpillar? will Maverick work?

THE PHOTO SHOWS THE COCOON which is about 5 milimiteres long and 3-4 mils wide at the widest point (see the leaf on the left)

many thanks
dan

The picture doesn't enlarge enough to really get a good look, but they could be some sort of case moth, perhaps.

Hi Pam.

Thanks for your opinion. From looking on Google I think you could be right and they may be CASE MOTHS.

The CASE is tiny - around 1cm long and 4mm wide at it's widest point.

I sprayed with MAVERICK which is for caterpillars. Do you think that would work, or can you recommend a different treatment?

Thanks
