Plant ID please! A green bushy shrub/hedge - in Brisbane

Postby ch20051 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:35 pm

Hello everyone! What a wonderful forum I have stumbled across.

I seek identification help please. This plant was pruned to a hedge when we moved into our house, albeit a bit scarce in some places. It’s fast growing and has quickly grown out of shape.

We are trying to decide whether to keep it (probably will if it’s either a native or we can do something to thicken it up in the parts that are scarce when it is pruned into shape) or rip it out and plant a lily pily.

Any idea what it might be? Sorry – not sure if it has flowered. Grows in full sun, relatively dry conditions (Brisbane city area).

Thanks!

Hi Lawn trimmer, that looks like privet (Ligustrum undulatum) - very hard to control, and it makes me sneeze! lol

Thanks so so much - I think you're spot on with Privet!

I have googled Privet and I think it might be Chinese Privet, which is a weed - a class 3 pest. Think we might remove it.
