Possible fungul disease in soil.....need help

I am in Bowen, Queensland, dry tropical climate. The ground in our yard, is very poor with a cover of "native pasture grass". And then the first ring appeared!!! We have several across the hill now. I have seen the fairy rings on internet, but they are different. There have been mushrooms in the areas and also lots of lumps of mud, which I thought originally were worms, until I realised I must be wrong. I have been told it is possibly a fungul problem. Am hoping to get soil sampled soon. Anybody else had this problem? Many thanks
