Flower Id Please

I am on the south coast of NSW, a medium shrub grew in our garden, not planted but appeared. It has never flowered until this year. I assume the flower was red to begin with and when it opened exposed little seeds around the head. They are either eaten by the birds or they drop to the ground. Leaves are 6cm long not unlike a bay leaf shape and shiny green. The photo shows black dots where the seeds were attached.

Any seedlings that come up, get onto them as soon as possible, as even from an early age, the roots are like wire and quite difficult to get out.
