Incorrect time stamp

Postby Getafix » Mon Jul 19, 2010 2:22 pm

I've been wondering about the time stamps for this forum. I've noticed that on the "Board index" page, there is a line at the top that says "It is currently ..." and then gives the date and time. I've noticed that the time it gives is 30 mins ahead of my current time?! The result is that according to the time stamp on my posts, i'm actually making them 30 min in the future!!! This shouldn't be the case because my flux capacitor has been on the blink for weeks now!!! :D

Not sure if it's an issue with the site or my computer or communication between the two...has anyone else noticed it?

I posted a message roughly at 3:30pm and it got stamped at 3:00pm, so I must be running late again... :?

There's a note at the bottom of the page that all times are UTC (Coordinated Universal Time which is the same as the more commonly know GMT Greenwich Mean Time) + 10 hours. So if your local time is different to this then the time stamp would not reflect your local time.

That said, I posted earlier and the time was 30mins out so looks like it is using UTC + 9.5 hours.

This post is made at 8:55am Melbourne time which is UTC + 10hrs

I only work on its time to plant for spring or winter.
Garden time and seasonal change is more important
then thinking about what time a computer system is set at.
For me anyhow.

Getafix, go to your user control panel, and then board preferences. You can adjust the time there.

Don't know about anyone else, but I'm not able to do that Pam. The time right now is 7.01pm exactly, but my time stamp says 6.31pm exactly. I can't change the actual time at all.

Edit: But I've just found out that if I set it to Norfolk Island time, it is then correct on the board index   .

Yes, I've just set mine to Lord Howe Island time. Getafix, you will need to actually select a time that is half an hour ahead of where you are, it seems.

There has to be something wrong with the actual Board Index clock. Right now, the time is 6:36pm, but my Board Index clock is saying 6:23pm - it's slipped by 9 minutes since I set to Norfolk Island time yesterday.
