what's wrong with my Gross Lisse's

Postby Jen » Sun Jan 08, 2006 2:24 pm

I've had fairly good success with most tomato types this year except Gross Lisse. Many are rotting on the vine, or half formed with huge black spots. Can anyone tell me what has caused this. There are lots of fruit forming but very few that can be eaten.

Hey Jen
It sound like Blossom end rot, its a bit strange that it is only the Gross Lisse that is affected.
Blossom end rot of fruits may be caused by inadequate or uneven water supply and excessive nitrogen and certain other conditions which interfere with calcium nutrition in the fruit.
Maybe you could post a pic of the plant to help identify your problem.

Thanks for the hints, Tomato Grower. I had a feeling it might be something to do with the water. We have the sprinklers set a bit too high, so maybe that might be something to do with it, also maybe watering at night. I'd love to post a photo but the camera is in being repaired. darn it!
