Canberra Court Yard Fruit?

Postby johnh » Mon Feb 20, 2012 3:22 pm

Hi All

I have a small 5m x 1m garden bed against my fence that is North facing and gets sun most of the day. I only have a small yard and the garden bed currently has a large leaf hedge type plant in it. My wife and I were talking the other day and we decided that we would like to grow some sort of fruit there instead.

We both don't know too much about gardening, but I was thinking that perhaps some grape vines or some sort of dwarf fruit trees. :?

Any recommendations on what would work and when I should look at planting?

I'm in Canberra.

I'd plant apples. Canberra gets pretty cold yeah? Should be able to get a few heritage varieties that cross pollinate. Few fruits are as multi purpose as apples. Eat, Juice, Desserts & Cider!
