Green fleas infesting plants?

Postby KevinTJH » Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:07 pm

My eggplant plants have been flowering alot but the flowers just keep falling off.

I've recently just discovered that there are THOUSANDS of these little green bugs infesting all my plants (including my chilli plants).

Should I get rid of them immediately? If so, how?
Are they beneficial in any way such as pollinating the flowers?

I've also recently noticed that the leaves are starting the look a little odd....What's going on??

Thanks in advance!

Those are thrips KevinTJH.

There's some really good info here on dealing with them

The ones on the flower look more like aphids to me. Maybe you've got both.

Yea I believe I may have both because the ones under the leaves look slightly different.

I guess insecticides are the only way to go?

When you have aphids, some will look different because they are dead husks that have been killed by predators, which is a good sign. If you have lots of dead aphids it means the local beneficial insects are doing their job, so don't spray with insecticide.

Not always. Aphids shed their skin, so it can be that.
