Strawberry problems

Postby Guadalupe » Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:45 am

My strawberries look withered and dull and have black seeds. They are in a raised bed with mulch and compost and are watered daily. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

Any spots on the leaves?

A few of mine were like that and the problem was not enough water.
Have you lifted the mulch to make sure the ground under is wet. I think the mulch takes up the water sometimes and it doesn't wet the soil.

thick mulch can prevent enough water getting to the plant. I have drip irrigation under the mulch and they get two hours a day. This could be the result of mould underthe mulch too.

I just noticed they are the pink flowering ones. I never had any success with them and most of mine did the same as yours.
It is a few years ago since I grew them.

Mine did that too. A lady at a nursery said strawberries need heaps and heaps of water. Maybe that was our problem.
