rodents in the vegies

Any suggestions to keep rats and native marsupials from eating our tomatoes? We have tried 'Scat', urine, garlic. Wrapping fruit up every night is not practical. Not interested in killing any critters. :?:

One solution is to plant more plants, that they'll enjoy eating more than your tomatoes ... so if native animals are a problem, how about planting a Banksia "Golden Candles" (they're said to grow a metre in one growing season ... we've actually just planted one to encourage the birdlife and possums, and it looks larger every day ) Or you could grow enough tomatoes so that there's plenty left for you even after the animals have been at them :)

The complexity of an ecosystem is so valuable, irreplaceable really, that I wouldn't want to discourage the animals 8) I enjoy their visits.

I wonder what state you're in, and which area, city, country, bush, forest?
