seasonal bog

Postby bristow » Thu Aug 23, 2012 3:08 am

I have a section in my garden that becomes boggy in long periods of wet weather, but dries out in long dry spells. There is a layer of soil, leaf litter etc over clay. I dont want to add gypsum or drain it. I would rather plant stuff that can deal with these conditions. eg a kind of papyrus or rush comes up in the rainy season. I would like a bog garden, but I guess that would need digging out so there is always some water present even in the dry season. The area was originally bush, until the council came through (a long time ago) and flattened the area to put a sewer in.

Does any one have any suggestions?

I would use some reeds or rushes in the area. Club Rush could be a good one if you can get it there.
