Blackberry - cut suckers or not ?

Postby pete_moss » Sun Dec 11, 2016 11:33 am

About this time of the year, our thornless blackberry sends out a number of suckers. Was about to cut them off, but isn't next years fruit grown on these 'suckers' ?

You could probably cut a few of them if you want to just prune and get things under control. Might be a bit hard to see which ones are new and which ones are old in my opinion. But we learn new things all the time! Would be good to tie a red string around the new suckers so you know which ones should be trimmed next season!
